The 2009 Fifth International Conference on Intelligent Computing Was Successfully Held in Ulsan, Korea

  ICIC2009, led and hosted by Intelligent Computing Laboratory, Chinese Academy of Sciences, organized by University of Ulsan, Korea, technically co-sponsored by IEEE, IEEE Computational Intelligent Society and the International Neural Network Society, and financially supported by the National Science Foundation of China, was successfully held on September 16-19, 2009 in Ulsan, Korea.
  The Conference Ceremony was hosted by Professor Kanghyun Jo, the Program Committee Chair from University of Ulsan. Professor De-Shuang Huang, the General Chair from Intelligent Computing Laboratory, CAS, made a welcome speech.
  ICIC2009 invited Professor Tsutomu Hasegawa of Kyushu University of Japan, Professor In-So Kweon of Division of Electrical Engineering, KAIST, Professor Ngoc Thanh Nguyen of Wroclaw University of Technology, Poland, to give their keynote speeches in the conference. On Sept. 17th and 18th, the conference participants conducted extensive academic exchanges and discussions in five parallel oral sessions. The Technical Committee Meeting was held in the afternoon of 18th, where the situation of the 2009 conference was reviewed, and the future development of Intelligent Computing was also discussed.
  The conference received altogether 1082 papers from 34 countries and regions. After the strict review of Program Committee, 257 papers have got published in Lecture Notes in Computer Sciences（LNCS 5754）and Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence（LNAI 5755）, respectively by Springer Press. More than 200 well-known experts and scholars from home and abroad gathered to celebrate the event which enhanced the academic exchanges of Intelligent technology and bioinformatics, neural information, and chemical information. The experts and scholars conducted extensive academic discussions in artificial intelligence, machine learning, neural computation, bioinformatics, computational biology, computational intelligence, swarm intelligence and the relevant fields in two days and discussed the future development of international intelligent computing.
  After two days oral sessions and group discussion, according to experts’ reviews, three Best Papers were chosen by the Technical Committee Members, and the winners were awarded certificates of outstanding papers at the Banquet in the evening of Sept. 18th.
  The Deputy Mayor of Ulsan city, Mr. Bong-Hyeon Joo, The President of the University of Ulsan, Professor Do-Yeon Kim, Professor De-Shuang Huang from Intelligent Computing Laboratory, CAS, Professors Kanghyun Jo and Honghee Lee from University of Ulsan, and Professor Laurent Heutte from University of Rouen in France attended the Banquet and delivered warm speeches. ICIC2009 was successfully concluded in the melodious rhythm of Korean Sookmyung Gayageum Orchestra.
  ICIC is an annual international conference event. ICIC2009 will be held on August 2010 in Changsha, Hunan Province, China.
